Saturday 18th September 2010

Keep the 18th September free in your diaries for what promises to be a day of fun and activity for all the family.

This year's event has a nautical theme and will set sail on the Village Green from 12pm riding the waves until 5pm.

ATTRACTIONS
Apart from the main arena events which will include song and dance acts including an appearance by the winners of the Headley Factor Competition, not to mention the ever popular egg catching competition, there will be an array of attractions to entertain young and old alike. These will include:

  • A Bungee Trampoline
  • Donkey Rides
  • Craft Tent
  • Mill Cottage Farm
  • Children's Fun Fair Experience
  • Army Assault Course
  • Herpetologist - reptile
  • A Wide range of stalls expert and sideshows.

DOG SHOW
Dogs can also come along to the Fete and join in the novelty Dog Show! Watch out for details of the various classes in next month's magazine! Winners from each class receive rosettes and prizes and are entered into the Best in Show competition!

THE PRIZE DRAW
The fete prize draw helps provide the funds to put on the fete again in the future so please do buy a ticket to help make the event financially viable! This years list of prizes include a fabulous spa day for 2 at Grayshott Spa so be sure not to miss out!

REFRESHMENTS
Having worked up an appetite - not to mention a thirst from all the activities on offer, take time out to enjoy a tasty burger or appropriately enough given the days nautical theme, some delicious fish and chips! Arford WI will also be providing tea and cakes in the Village Hall and there will of course be a Beer tent and ice cream!

COMPETITIONS
Why not try your hand and enter one of the competitions?

Homemade Produce
There will be 4 categories this year:

  • Hedgerow drink (either soft or alcoholic) eg sloe gin/blackberry cordial
  • An 'unusual' marmalade or jam (ie to contain some ingredient not commonly associated with the normal run of preserves)
  • A bread and butter pudding (either sweet or savoury/any variety)
  • A cake made with rum as one of the ingredients

Entries should be delivered to the Craft Tent on the Village Green by 11.30am on the day of the Fete
with judging taking place at 12.30pm

Children's Competitions

  • Design a treasure map. Use your imagination to design and create a crafty trail! (The more colourful the better!)
  • Make and decorate a gingerbread person/animal in keeping with the shows nautical theme - think sailors, mermaids, sharks... Let your imagination run wild!
  • Children's Fancy Dress Competition
All children up to the age of 12 are invited to enter the fancy dress competition. Again the theme is a nautical one so be it Robinson Crusoe or Long John Silver we hope you'll push the boat out to make this the best contest yet!

HELP WANTED
If you could spare some time on the day of the fete itself to help either set up or dismantle the displays, your help would be very much appreciated. Set up starts at Sam on the Green so please feel free to come and join our friendly team! We also need help on the day with programme/raffle ticket sales.
