Headley has had a dedicated web site for some years - we celebrated our tenth anniversary last year (2007) - bringing together information and current events with an amount of historical information and research resource.
We have had a number of interesting contacts from around the world from people who have family connections or perhaps a memory. Several contacts from Canadian forces from the 1939-45 war, descendants of transportees, and others who are hunting a relative or friend. The recent increase in use of the broadband network has seen even more traffic, and many more people contributing to, or using the information on the site. In the past year we've seen a number of old photographs emerging, with names been remembered and events from the 1950's being brought to light!.
The Parish Council is beginning to make more use of the facility to make the Council meeting information widely available, and to provide additional routes for the community to comment on these and such topics as the Parish Plan. Our thanks to the Parish clerk (currently Linda Farley) for her efforts in keeping that segment of the site up to date.
The domain and elements of the village
life pages are maintained and co-ordinated by Alistair Young to give a regular monthly view of the village events, and respond to any requests or contributors.
Jo Smith provides
the local research and history from his own enormous resources.
Pages for societies,
organisations and local companies are either linked into the site or are provided
as part of the domain to give a true virtual community effort. It is all done
for fun, and we are happy to help those who would like a web page for their
own area of interest, and need a bit of a hand to get rolling. Please mail us
if you want to provide information, a page, or just a helpful comment.
The Headley domains include headley-village.com
and headley-village.co.uk which are hosted on UK2.net servers. Many of the site
pages are hosted on demon or btinternet servers, with other pages on a variety
of commercial or 'free' web space.
There is also a site to cover the frequent enquiries from music fans who want some information about Headley Grange
at headley-grange.com.
