Important Footpath Gets A Makeover by Volunteers

A recently elected Councillor, John Burton, organised a group of volunteers to clear a well used footpath in the Parish after it was overrun with brambles and overhanging branches.

After a number of complaints in June 2011 about the waist height brambles on the footpath leading from the High Street through to Field Fare and Holme School, the Parish Clerk asked Hampshire County Council, who is responsible for the maintenance of the footpath, to get it cleared. Eventually it was, but not until September 2011.  However the leaf mulch and brambles, now dead, remained.  Despite the efforts of the Clerk to get them removed, the Parish Council decided to take matters into its own hands.

Cllr John Burton organised a group of volunteers including Cllr Hopwood, Cllr Hillbery, Cllr Truelove, Robert Emuss and Peter Mackey who, armed with their own tools, cleared the footpath on Saturday 26th November 2012. The considerable amount of debris was disposed of in a skip kindly provided by Cllr Luff.

Other similar community projects will be considered in the near future. Any volunteers wishing to help should contact Katie Knowles, the Clerk at the Parish Office.
