IntroductionAnother year has gone by – how quickly they seem to pass. At the time of writing it is rather cold outside, so I am quite happy to have an excuse to stay indoors whilst writing this editorial. As ever we have had a tremendous number of articles and photographs sent in, so my thanks to all of you for spending the time to prepare them. I am sure you will find plenty of interest. The past year has seen the long-awaited opening of the Hindhead Tunnel – what a relief to have seen the end of the queues and roadworks. Now that the old road has been buried, a lovely area has been created around the punchbowl and is a great asset to have on our doorstep. I know I am certainly looking forward to some nice walks there during the summer. As you will see from the Parish reports, this has been another busy year for the Council, and a tremendous amount has been achieved. It has been a time of change with some councillors standing down and new councillors elected. My thanks to all of them for tirelessly working on your behalf, not only for attending the council meetings, but representing the council on other committees, attending various events and preparing many reports and responses to consultations. This year our Annual Parish Meeting is to be held on Monday 16th April, with guest speakers from Hampshire Constabulary on the subject of local policing issues, so keep a note in your diary. I hope you enjoy reading this year's Headley Report and would welcome any feedback. Please also let us know if there are any events coming up that you would like us to cover in future issues. The Headley Report is self-financing and is issued free to all households in the parish, but if you would like further copies, or perhaps know someone who has moved away and would like to receive a copy, then please let us know and these can be supplied for a small charge. My thanks also go out to all the helpers who help deliver the Headley Report – no small task. Notable activities for the coming year include the Jubilee celebrations and the village Fête. It is planned to hold a hog roast on the village green, along with other events, for the Jubilee and a small committee has been formed to organise the events (see separate article) – watch out for further information. The Fête is to be held on 15th September and promises to be bigger and better than ever – no surprises at this year's theme being the Olympics. Our thanks go to Rosemary Schofield and her committee for continuing to organise it – it all adds to village life and a boost to morale just before autumn sets in. I would like to add a reminder to make good use of the village
website where a wealth of information can be found on a whole
range of activities. If you have any immediate issues contact
can be made with the Parish clerk, either by telephone, email, or
simply call in. Contact details and opening times for the office
can be found later in this report. A summary of all the various
contact details for local organisations, clubs and societies can be
found in the centre pages.
