Did You Know? …

Around 1200AD, the whole of Headley parish was
within the bounds of Woolmer Forest.
Simmonstone (or Symondstone if you prefer) was
named after Richard Seman who lived there in
1270.

Barford (corn) mill was rebuilt and transferred to
the west side of the stream and into the Parish of
Headley in 1343.

In 1520 a new house was authorised, for use of the
Church for ‘recreation’, as long as the Church
wardens paid 5/3d per annum [Ref: Philip Brooks’
transcription of the Winchester Pipe Rolls] – this
date coincides with dendro-chronology dating of
Suters in Headley High Street.
