ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

The Royal British Legion is the leading ex-service organisation and one of the UK’s best known and highly respected Charities. Its principle concern is the welfare of exservice people and their dependents, with around 11 million people eligible for support. The Legion also campaigns on behalf of the ex-service community on issues including post warfare illnesses and pensions for those injured or disabled both physically and mentally. The Legion is open to membership for all members of the community-male and female.
The Headley & District Branch raises money to fund the welfare work by holding social events throughout the year; these include Supper & Skittles evenings, BBQs and lunches. The Branch also supports village events such as the Fun Run and the Village Fete.

We, in company with many volunteers collect money for the annual Poppy Appeal and, for its size, Headley collects one of the largest contributions in the County. Although we hear daily of the sad deaths of service people in Afghanistan, we must not forget the families that are left behind and the support needed for more than 1,000 individuals that have been wounded in action.
