PHOENIX THEATRE

The Phoenix Theatre programmes over thirty shows a year over two seasons, offering work by professional small scale touring companies and local theatre groups. The theatre offers a variety of music, comedy, new work and both traditional and contemporary drama.

The Phoenix Theatre Company is the resident professional theatre company specialising in issue based drama, education projects, classic drama and arts based training. The company tours all over Hampshire and the south to theatres, arts centres, village halls, libraries, museums and educational establishments.
Recent classic work includes: Jane Austen – An Elegant Portrayal, a biographical account of the life and works of the well loved Hampshire novelist. Phoenix Theatre Company has also worked on educational and issue based projects based on subjects such as bullying, drug and alcohol abuse, diversity and domestic violence.

The Phoenix Players are the resident amateur drama group at The Phoenix. The Players stage three shows a year, which cater for a variety of tastes including musicals, Shakespeare, comedy and pantomime. In January 2008 the Players performed Robinson Crusoe and The Pirates and in May they will present Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to join and members are drawn from Bordon and the surrounding areas.

Children’s Drama
A drama group for children aged 7 to 11 years, led by professional actors, is run on Monday evenings from 6pm till 7.30pm in term time. The children learn basic theatre techniques and how to work towards a production. The sessions aim to build self esteem and confidence.

Youth Theatre
Phoenix Youth Theatre runs once a week on Wednesdays in term time for young people aged 12 to 16. The sessions are run by professional actors and the students are encouraged to devise pieces of theatre for performance and are able to develop their drama techniques.

Dramability
Dramability Youth Theatre is a group for 14 to 19 year olds of mixed ability, including young people with learning and physical disabilities. The group work on devised pieces of theatre using their own ideas for performance, guided by professionals. They meet on Tuesdays in term time from 6.30pm till 8pm.

Children’s Art
Weekly art sessions on Wednesdays in term time are run by a local professional artist for children aged 7 upwards. The workshops encourage self expression and the children have their work exhibited at the end of each term.
