The club instructor at Headley, Doug Cameron, has achieved the level 2nd Dan black belt and has been training under Sensei Wicks for twenty four years. He has also trained under Sensei Suzuki and other Japanese Sensei. In April 2007, Doug was able to join Sensei Suzuki and Wicks in visiting Japan for training and sight-seeing. The trip included visits to Himeji castle, Hiroshima, Kyoto and training with a local karate club in Iwakuni. The aim of the club is to teach children from the age of 5 and upwards traditional Wado Ryu karate. This gives them a good grounding in self-defence, improves their self-confidence and raises their level of fitness. The club meets at Headley Village Hall on Tuesday nights at 6.30pm until 7.30pm and beginners are always welcome. |
