Membership of Headley Tennis Club increased by 30 last year
to reach a total of 132. New Members will always find a
warm welcome and be accepted whatever their standard of
play. The ethos of the Club is based on the enjoyment of
playing the game, so if you keep meaning to start or return to
using a tennis racquet, then HTC is where to come!!! Membership ranges from juniors (under 16s) to ‘mature
‘players (over 70s)
The Club has excellent facilities which include two well maintained
hard courts now benefiting from a new set of
floodlights used by those who wish to play in the evenings.
There is an on-site cabin-style club house as well as the main
Sports Pavilion nearby.
The courts are used throughout the year. Some hardy
members wear ‘survival’ clothing in the winter whilst running
around generating heat and gaining a lot of exercise as well as
occasionally hitting a ball in the process!! It has been known
for rain and snow to halt play, otherwise all other conditions
are tolerated!
Adult sessions are held on Thursday evenings, also Tuesday
and Thursday mornings. These provide an opportunity for a
friendly and sporting occasion which caters for all levels of
playing ability. Alternatively all members can access the
courts with a club key and play at any other time when they
are not used for matches or club sessions. Those wishing to
play under the floodlights can register for a club house key so
as to activate the light switches.
There are Club League Teams for those who like to play
competitively. In winter three teams (Ladies/ Men’s/ Mixed)
play in the Aldershot and District League, whilst in the
summer a Ladies team plays in the East Hants League.
The Club also organises both Senior and Junior tournaments
in the Summer. In addition two American Tournaments are
held during the year. A well-earned buffet follows these
events!!
The Social events cycle for the year usually includes, a
Summer BBQ, an Autumn Skittles Evening, a seasonal
Christmas Dinner and a New Year’s Day tennis session
powered by a hot liquid concoction which seems to revitalise
Members!!
The new Tennis Practice Wall, built a year ago adjacent to the
main courts, has proved very popular. This is available to the
Public who can access it at any time as the gate is kept
unlocked. It provides an opportunity for people to hit balls
against the wall to develop racquet skills or simply to let off
steam. Children love it!! If you haven’t tried it and you need
a racquet the club has a scheme for borrowing one.
Subscription rates for HTC are set at a very modest level
(2008/9: £40 Adult, £19 Student, £16 Junior and £88 Family)
in order that all whatever their means can play and enjoy
tennis. Headley Parish Council owns the courts and continues
to share funding for major maintenance works. |
