Headley Tennis Club is a very friendly club and welcomes
members of all standards. The ethos of the club is to enjoy
playing tennis and to have some exercise. The membership
ranges from Juniors (under 16’s) to ‘mature’ players
(over 70’s).
The club has excellent facilities. These include two well
maintained hard courts, which have floodlights for those wishing
to play in the evenings. There is an on-site cabin club-house
with a newly fitted kitchen as well as a Sports Pavilion nearby.
The courts are used all year round, regardless of temperature,
more clothes are added as the temperature drops. The only
occasions when play is not possible is during heavy rain or
snow, although some hardy members have been known to play
in these conditions.
Adult club sessions are Tuesday and Thursday mornings, the
first Sunday afternoon of each month there is a ‘Come up
and play’ afternoon and it is hoped to start a club evening
this spring. These sessions give the opportunity to meet
and play with other members whatever their standard. Members
can also access the courts with a club key and play at any
other time when they are not used for matches and club sessions.
Members wishing to play under floodlights, can register
for a clubhouse key in order to activate the light switches.
There are Club League Teams for those who want to play competitive
tennis. There are three teams, Ladies, Mixed and Mens, in
the Summer the teams play in the East Hants League, in the
Winter in the Aldershot and District League. During the
Summer there is an Adult tennis tournament with the finals
in September. There are also American Tournaments run during
the year.
Headley Tennis Club is able to offer tennis coaching facilities
for club members through their coach, Nick Youl, a long standing
club member and a member of the Professional Tennis Registry.
Junior coaching sessions are run after school between 4pm
and 6pm weekdays and on Saturday mornings. Junior coaching
is also to be run over the Half Term and Easter Holidays as
well as during the Summer Holidays this year. Individual
and Group Coaching for adults is also available. Please
contact Nick Youl on 01428 712007 or 07770 744202 for further
details.
The Club runs several social events, BBQ’s, an Autumn Skittles
evening, a Christmas or New Year Dinner and a New Year’s
day tennis session with the help of some hot refreshments.
Adjacent to the courts is a practice wall, which is open
to the public at any time as the gate is not locked - this
is popular with children and adults alike.
Subscription rates are set at a very modest level in order
to encourage people from all walks of life to give everyone
the opportunity of playing tennis. Headley Parish Council
own the courts and continue to share the funding for major
maintenance work.
