At various times Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis and others used the old workhouse at Headley as a recording studio, mostly with the engineering services of the Rolling Stone Mobile studio.

Best known are the tracks recorded or written at Headley by Led Zepppelin, and it is for that reason the Grange is one of the pilgrimage sites of the modern era. The closely located but less musically significant house (Benifold) used by Fleetwod Mac is noted and part of the folklore of the band, but not quite in the same league of hallowed ground .
