Bridleway No.18 – “Headley Hill Road”: Fullers Vale corner (B3002) to Bowcott Hill

Updated August 2020

Note: In conjunction with FP28 (‘The Brae’) this route provides a pleasant alternative to the dangerous B3002 along Fullers Vale when walking between Headley Down and Headley.

1
There is a bridleway fingerpost a few yards above the junction of Beech Hill and Pond Road.

2
Leaving Oakdene on the left, the first 150 yards are up a steep stony track with woodland on the right.

3
It meets Footpath 501 on the right as it turns left.

4
It joins Headley Hill Road which is partly concreted at first (the concrete was laid during WW2 by Canadian forces at points where their tanks would be turning) ...

5
... but deteriorates into a rutted track at the far end ...

6
... where it crosses Footpath 29 ...

7
... and descends to Bowcott Hill (photo in reverse direction) where there is a small Bridleway marker attached to a telegraph post.
