Footpath No.16 – Churt Road, Plaster Hill Farm to Bacon Lane

Note: This path has several stiles

A finger post on Churt Road, opposite FP17 and the road to Coombe Farm , leads through a gap in the hedge.

The path is soon guided round the perimeter of a paddock field by a wooden fence ...

... to arrive at the first of several stiles (not one for short legs!)

The path goes diagonally across the next field which has been planted as new woodland by the Woodland Trust – a notice on a post reads: “Part of the Centenary Woods project to commemorate all those involved in the First World War.”
This part of the walk will have a very different feel as the trees mature.

There is another stile of the other side of the field, leading to a meadow.

At the time of writing this was used for grazing horses, and there was no discernible path across ...

... but head for another stile which can be seen on the other side.

This leads into woodland, and the rest of the path can be muddy at times.

There are springs here which feed the Wishanger lakes and the beginnings of a stream to the right.

At the end is another stile leading to Bacon Lane.

Reverse view of the last stile.  To continue the walk to Smithfield Lane, turn left along Bacon Lane and after a few yards right into BW15 (‘Park Lane’).
